ATHENS, Ohio — Ohio wrestling (5-3, 1-1 MAC) picked up their first win in Mid-American Conference play with a 29-6 win over George Mason (9-5, 2-2 MAC). The Bobcats won nine of ten matches in the dual-meet, the highest single-meet total for the team this season.

Ohio started out hot, picking up wins by decision from freshman Ryan Meek (Luebbering, Ohio), sophomore Mason Brugh (Wadsworth, Ohio), and junior Aidan Waszak (Wheaton, Ill.). The first three victories set the Bobcats on the right track, opening up the meet with a 9-0 lead.

After George Mason picked up their lone victory of the night, the redshirt sophomore Peyten Kellar (Cutler, Ohio) responded with a 3-0 decision over No. 25 DJ McGee. The win provided No. 17 Kellar with his 13th win of the year and helped keep his undefeated record in dual-meets.

Redshirt sophomore Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Ohio) continued the momentum for the Bobcats. The No. 12 wrestler at 165-pounds won a back-and-forth battle with Evan Maag by way of a 12-10 decision. Junior Sal Perrine (Northfield, Ohio) also won by decision at 174. The No. 20 wrestler at 174 defeated the Patriots' Paul Pierce 4-2 to improve to 13-8 on the season.

Junior Zayne Lehman (Akron, Ohio) had the most dominant performance of the night for the Bobcats. Lehman dominated his match against Malachi DuVall who had come off of back-to-back MAC East Wrestler of the Week selections. For all three periods Lehman had the upper hand, ultimately winning with a 15-0 technical fall.

Sophomore Austin Starr (Indian Creek, Ohio) and senior Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio) rounded out the night for the Bobcats. The 197-pounder flirted with a major decision, but could not find a final take down. In the end, Starr won by a 8-1 decision to improve to 14-5. The heavyweight Greer used a powerful takedown on George Mason's Chad Nix to push him to victory. The takedown rattled the Convocation Center floor en route to his 4-2 decision victory.

With the win, Ohio improved to 5-3 in dual-meets and 1-1 in the MAC. Ohio will travel to Cleveland State on Jan. 26 to take on the Vikings. The Bobcats will look to jump above .500 in conference matches with the meet set to start at 7:00 p.m.
