BUFFALO, N.Y. – In its first match of the weekend series, the Ohio volleyball team (8-8, 3-1 MAC) took down conference opponent, Buffalo (12-3, 2-1 MAC), with a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-18, 27-25) on Friday.
Sophomore
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) was a major offensive force for the Bobcats. Kharchynska tallied 17 kills, two blocks, six digs and 18.5 points. Freshman
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) and junior
Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) also aided in Ohio's win with 10 points each. Hunt and Clippard earned eight and seven kills, respectively.
Senior
Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) served as an offensive contributor to the Bobcats as she totaled an impressive 33 assists. Senior
Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) added three aces, three assists and eight digs.
Ohio gained an early 1-0 lead with a 25-23 win over Buffalo in the first set. It was a competitive start to the match as both teams fought for the early advantage. After being tied for most of the beginning of the set, the Bobcats broke away from Buffalo and ultimately earned the first victory of the match.
The Bobcats dominated the second set off a strong start and early seven-point lead. Ohio's 25-18 victory gave the team a 2-0 advantage over Buffalo.
The Bulls led for most of the third set, but Ohio made a comeback run that tied the teams at 24-24. The Bobcats finally took the lead and went on to solidify another conference win with a 27-25 victory in the final set of the match.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday as they conclude their MAC weekend series at Buffalo at 4 p.m.
