ATHENS, Ohio -- Sophomore Maia Soulis (Sylvania, Ohio) was named the Mid-American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in the 3-0 win against Duquesne on Thursday. It is Soulis' first time earning this recognition.
Soulis, who played 80 of 90 minutes, was the centerpiece of a strong backline that limited the Dukes to five shots and just two on target. Working together with her teammates, Soulis and the Bobcats were able to stall Duquesne's offensive threats to pick up a clean sheet in a dominant season-opening performance.
Alongside Soulis, Buffalo's Emily Lazenby was also named Co-Defensive Player of the Week, while Western Michigan's Jen Blitchok took home the Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Ohio (1-0-0) will take on Cleveland State (1-1-0) on Thursday. The Vikings are coming off a 3-1 win on the road against St. Bonaventure. The in-state battle will kick off at 4:00 pm at Chessa Field.
