ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio volleyball program released its 2023 schedule, as announced by head coach Geoff Carlston.
The Bobcats start off with an exhibition match at Marshall on Aug. 18 before competing in 12 non-conference matchups across four different events. Ohio will officially begin its season on Aug. 25-27 at the JMU Invitational. The Bobcats will play University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Friday at 1:30 p.m. before taking on James Madison and High Point on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Ohio will then travel to Dayton, Ohio for the Dayton Invitational 2. The Bobcats will first see Butler on Sept. 1 at 5 p.m., followed by North Dakota State and Dayton on Sept. 2 at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
The Bobcats will head back to Athens for the Bobcat Invitational Sept. 7-9, where they will take on the University of Texas at El Paso on Thursday at 6 p.m., NC State on Friday at 6 p.m., and William & Mary on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Finally, Ohio will take the court in Aimes, Iowa for its last non-conference tournament in the preseason. The Cyclone Invitational will have Ohio meet Drake on Sept. 14 at 5:00 p.m. before playing Iowa State on Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 16 at 12:30 p.m.
The Bobcats will begin conference play at home against Akron. Ohio will take on the Zips Sept. 22 and 23 at 7:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. before facing Kent State on Sept. 26 at 7:00 p.m. The Bobcats will then travel to Buffalo to challenge the Bulls Sept. 29 and 30 at 6:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
In October, Ohio will return home for a series against Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. The Bobcats play the Huskies on Oct. 5 and the Broncos on Oct. 6, both at 7:00 p.m. Ohio will then match up with Bowling Green at home on Oct. 13 and 14. Matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively. The Bobcats will finish out the month with two series on the road. First up will be Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 20 (6:00 p.m.) and 21 (TBA) before traveling to Toledo on Oct. 27 (6:00 p.m.) and Ball State on Oct. 28 (4:00 p.m.).
Ohio will return home for a series against Eastern Michigan on Nov. 3 and 4 at 7:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. before finishing out its regular season away. The Bobcats will take on Central Michigan Nov. 10 and 11 at 6:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. before concluding at Kent State on Nov. 15 at 6:00 p.m.
The Mid-American Conference Tournament will be held Nov. 19-22 and hosted by the highest seed.
During the 2022 season, the No. 3 Bobcats made it to the quarterfinals before falling to Buffalo, finishing the season 20-12 after competing in the NIVC.
