HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Ohio baseball team (18-25, 14-10 MAC) defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd (16-30, 5-19 SBC) today at the Kennedy Center YMCA, 7-2.

Individually, junior Alec Patino (Sioux City, Iowa) and freshman Billy Adams (Medina, Ohio) led the way, both going 2-for-3 with one double. Fifth years Will Sturek (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) finished the day 2-for-4; Sturek recorded Ohio's only home run of the day.
On the mound, junior Mitchell Hemmen (Teutopolis, Ill.) pitched three innings and recorded his second win of the season. Sophomore Adam Beery (Ravenna, Ohio) threw for two innings while graduate student Colin Sells (Lancaster, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Patrick Straub (Aurora, Ill.), freshman Jayden Jerger (Defiance, Ohio) and junior Luke Olson (Granville, Ill.) all appeared for one inning apiece.
After two scoreless innings, a Herd solo home run in the bottom of the third put the Bobcats in a deficit. Redshirt sophomore AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio), evened the score in the top of the fifth, driving in redshirt sophomore Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with an infield single.

Ohio surged ahead in the sixth; Sturek led off with a home run, giving the Bobcats' their first lead of the game. Redshirt sophomore Blake Reed (Gahanna, Ohio) kept the momentum going, driving in Kasperbauer with a groundout to third. A Marshall fielding error extended the Bobcats' lead, followed by a passed ball to give Ohio a four-run lead. Patino rounded out the inning with an RBI double, putting the Bobcats ahead 6-1 heading into the bottom of the frame.

Ohio held the Herd to one more run in the eighth, where they capitalized on a sacrifice fly to score their second and final run of the game. Reed tacked on Ohio's final run in the top of the ninth, driving in Sturek with a fielder's choice, putting the final score at 7-2.

Up next, the Bobcats return to MAC play when they take on Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich. May 12-14. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
