AKRON, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (18-29, 14-14 MAC) fell to the Akron Zips (20-33, 11-17 MAC) today at Skeeles Field, 7-6.

Individually, fifth year Will Sturek (Minnetonka, Minn.) recorded three RBIs and one home run. Fifth year Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) went 2-for-4 at the plate, recording two runs and two RBIs.  Junior Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.) led the Bobcats in hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate and recorded one RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Dillon Masters (New Albany, Ohio) got the start, throwing four innings and retiring three batters. Sophomore Tyler Peck (Oak Creek, Wis.) finished the game for the Bobcats, retiring four batters.

Akron jumped ahead early with a solo home run and tacked on two additional runs to take a 3-0 lead after two innings. After a scoreless third inning, the Bobcats got on the board in the fourth. Antle singled to left field, driving in Minzey to cut the deficit to two runs. The Zips answered with another run in the bottom of the frame, leaving Ohio trailing, 4-1.

Minzey responded in the fifth with an RBI single, scoring redshirt sophomore Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and cutting the Zips' lead to two runs. Akron continued to build on their lead, driving in a run in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings to take a 7-2 lead.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, back-to-back singles from senior Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) and junior Alec Patino (Sioux City, Iowa) put runners in scoring position. Minzey followed with his second RBI of the day, driving in Finney to put the score at 7-3. The next at-bat, Sturek gave the Bobcats life with a crushed three-run home run, cutting Akron's lead to one run.

Despite their ninth inning heroics, the Bobcats could not score again, falling 7-6.

Up next, the Bobcats return to action tomorrow (May 19) for game two of their road series against the Zips. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
