Ohio Women’s Basketball Adds SEMO Transfer Kennedi Watkins to Roster

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball team has added transfer Kennedi Watkins to the roster for the 2023-24 season, head coach Bob Boldon announced today (April 19). The forward comes to the Bobcats after two seasons at Southeast Missouri State and has two years of eligibility remaining.
 
The Ballwin, Mo. native comes to Athens after spending two seasons at SEMO. Watkins has played in 55 career games, while making 32 starts. She averages 8.6 points and 5.1 rebounds a game, while shooting a career 43.8 percent from the field and 58.8 percent from the line. She also has 61 career steals and 35 career blocks. 
 
Last season, Watkins played in 31 games, starting 20 of them. She averaged 9.0 points and 4.8 rebounds a game, while shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 60.5 percent from the line. She recorded 19 blocks and grabbed 31 steals. Watkins scored a career-high 21 points against Rhode Island, going 8-of-9 from the field, 1-of-2 from three and 4-of-6 from the line. She also recorded a double double against Morehead State, scoring 11 points and grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. Watkins was named to the Preseason All-OVC Team prior to the start of the 2022-23 season. 
 
During her freshman season, Watkins played in 25 games with 13 starts as a true freshman and led SEMO with 17 blocks. She was fourth on the Redhawks in scoring with 207 points (8.3ppg) and third on the team with a field goal percentage of .446 (78-for-175). She was second on SEMO with 138 and with 32 steals. She finished in double-digits scoring 12 times and was named the OVC Freshman of the Week twice. 
 
Prior to SEMO, Watkins averaged 15.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game in her career at Marquette High School. As a junior, averaged 16.7 points and nine rebounds per game and was named First-Team Missouri All-and was selected to the First-Team Suburban Red Conference during her sophomore and junior seasons. As a senior, Watkins was named to Preps Girls Hoops All-St. Louis Area Preseason First-Team. 
 
She is the daughter of Paul Watkins and Tequila Gray.
