ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (5-11, 3-2 MAC) defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas (10-8, 1-1 MAC) at Bob Wren Stadium today (March 18), 11-7.

Individually, junior Cole Williams (Charlotte, N.C.) went 3-for-3 with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored. Senior Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) finished the day 2-for-3 with one double, one RBI and one run scored while redshirt sophomore AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio) went 2-for-5 with a home run. Fifth year Will Sturek (Minnetonka, Minn.) was a threat on the bases, scoring three times off three hits.

On the mound, junior Mitchell Hemmen (Teutopolis, Ill.) threw for four innings, giving up two runs. Fifth year Braxton Kelly (Ulysses, Ky.) closed the game, allowing one run in 2.2 innings.

The Bobcats opened the bottom of the second with back-to-back singles from Sturek and junior Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.). Williams cleared the bases with a home run to center field, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead. A Central Michigan RBI double drove in the Chippewas' first run in the top of the third, cutting Ohio's lead to two runs.

Central Michigan struck in the top of the fourth, putting the score at 3-2 with a solo home run. In the bottom of the inning, Finney drove in Williams with a double and scored himself when fifth year Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) grounded out. The next inning, the Chippewas took advantage of a Bobcats throwing error, putting the score at 5-3.

Williams' strong offensive performance continued in the bottom of the fifth, launching his second homer of the day over the right field fence and extending Ohio's lead to 7-3. Central Michigan loaded the bases in the sixth, ultimately scoring three runs off a fielder's choice, single and error.

After the Bobcats loaded the bases in the seventh, freshman Billy Adams (Medina, Ohio) singled to center field, driving in Williams and Sturek to extend Ohio's lead to 9-6. Ohio's momentum continued into the next inning; Rausch led off with a solo shot to center field. After Kasperbauer got on first with a bunt, fifth year Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) crushed a double to deep right center, easily scoring Kasperbauer to give the Bobcats a five-run lead.

Central Michigan scored in the ninth with a solo home run, but Kelly drew a pop out to end the game, solidifying Ohio's 11-7 victory.

Up next, the Bobcats return to Bob Wren Stadium tomorrow afternoon (March 19) for game three against Central Michigan. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
