Ohio Women's Basketball will Face Kent State Wednesday Night

KENT, OH.– The Ohio Women's Basketball team (6-19, 4-10 MAC) will travel to Kent State (17-8, 9-5 MAC) to play the Flashes for the second time this season. The in-state competition will take place in Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center Wednesday night (2/22) at 7pm. The matchup can be streamed on ESPN+ or followed through Live Stats here.

ALL-TIME SERIES
The Ohio Bobcats have faced off against the Kent State Flashes close to 100 times in recorded history. The two Ohio based teams have a long standing record that currently stands at 37-57, with Kent ahead by 20 victories. The Bobcats look to add another win to the all time record to initiate evening out the series in coming years. 

LAST TIME OUT 
The two Ohio based teams last saw each other in January of this year at the Convocation Center in Athens. The matchup was only the second conference game for the Bobcats in their 2023 season, proving to be a tough battle. The Bobcats fell 60-44 shooting 29 percent from the field, 5 percent from the three and 79 percent from the line, while Kent State shot 40 percent from the field, 24 percent from the three and 88 percent from the line. Ultimately, Kent State out-rebounded Ohio 43-32, while also grabbing nine steals and dishing out 14 assists to the Bobcats; 9 steals and 5 assists. The Bobcats are looking for redemption this time out.

SCOUTING THE FLASHES
Kent State's last matchup was against Akron and they were led by four players reaching double figures; Katie Shumate with 18 points, Corynne Hauser with 17, Hannah Young with 12, and Casey Santoro with 11. Katie Shumate also led the Flashes in rebounds with with 10; 4 offensive and 6 defensive. Tatiana Thomas also was a leader for the Flashes on defense with 3 blocks and 7 rebounds. Overall, Kent State shot 53.7% from the field, 34.8% from the three, and 7-of-7 from the line. 

LEADING KENT STATE
Over the 2022-23 season, Kent State has been led in scoring by Lindsey Thall with 274 points, averaging 11.4 a game. Following Thall is Katie Schumate with one less point at 273, averaging 10.9 a game. Leading the Flashes in rebounds is Katie Schumate with a total of 158, 104 defensive rebounds and 54 defensive. Schumate also leads the teams in steals, with 30. Thall is at the top of the board with blocks, totaling 26 this season and Corynne Hauser tops Kent State with 78 assists. The leads have shifted throughout the season and they are projected to change before entering the MAC tournament.

FLASHES NON-CONFERENCE SEASON
Kent started the season with a tough loss against Florida State (71-80), before defeating Northern Kentucky (77-54). The Flashes then went on the road losing to Arkansas (59-80) but came back to win against Oklahoma State (59-56). The Flashes also competed in the Christmas City Classic winning back to back against Quinnipiac (58-55) and Southern Illinois (72-66). In the Flashes final five games of the non-conference season they won all but one contest falling to Duquesne, (67-73). They defeated St. Bonaventure (64-49), Hiram (105-33), Otterbein (97-36), and Coppin State (72-69) in overtime.

OHIO'S MOST RECENT STATS
The Bobcats ended their last game defeating Central Michigan going 30-of-66 (45.5%) from the field, 14-of-33 (42.4%) from the three, 9-of-9 (100%) from the line, snagged 40 rebounds, 9 steals, and had 22 assists.

LAST TO LEAD
In the Bobcats last contest, Yaya Felder led Ohio on offense totaling 32 points, closely followed by Jaya McClure with her season high of 22. Felder went 12-of-17 from the field, 5-of-7 from the three, and 3-of-3 from the line. Felder also led Ohio in rebounds totaling 11, securing her second double-double of the game. Jaya McClure also led Ohio in assists with 7.

NOW LEADING OHIO
Throughout the 2022-23 season, Ohio has been led by Yaya Felder in scoring. Felder has hit double figures in almost every game this season and currently totals 524 points for the Bobcats, averaging 21 a game. Caitlyn Kroll follows with 209 points, and behind her is Abby Garnett with 178. Caitlyn Kroll also leads Ohio in rebounds, totaling 147; 125 defensive rebounds and 22 offensive. In terms of steals Yaya holds 53 for the season and Kroll is behind with 42. Leading in blocks is Abby Garnett with 15.

After closing out the Kent State matchup on Wednesday, Ohio will stay on the road and travel to Western Michigan for a Saturday (2/25) contest against the Broncos. Tipoff is set for 2 pm in Kalamazoo and can be streamed on ESPN3.
