LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Ohio wrestling team finished competition today at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. In a field of 36 teams, including six of the top ten ranked teams in the country, the Bobcats finished 15th.
Ohio was led by individual performances from redshirt sophomore Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) and junior Sal Perrine (Northfield, Ohio). Each of them placed fifth in their respective weight classes, taking on numerous ranked wrestlers along the way.
Thompson won four matches against ranked opponents en route to his fifth place finish. Perrine, despite losing his first match to the third-ranked Shane Griffith from Michigan, used five straight wins to push him through the consolation bracket.
Sophomore Derek Raike (Point Pleasant, W. Va.), redshirt sophomore Peyten Kellar (Cutler, Ohio), junior Zayne Lehman (Akron, Ohio), sophomore Austin Starr (Indian Creek, Ohio), and senior Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio) all picked up wins for the Bobcats as well.
