Ohio Softball Adds Seven During Early Signing Period

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio softball team added seven new student-athletes during the early signing period head coach Jenna Hall announced Nov. 10. Jordyn Wycuff, Sydney Young, Kaylee McDonald, Ally Meyers, Alexis Book, Abby Kennelly and Anna Wise are set to join Ohio for the 2024-25 season. 

Jordyn Wycuff 
Wycuff, a catcher from Pataskala, Ohio, plays for Watkins Memorial High School and Thunder Elite Premier. She is the captain of Watkins Memorial's team for the 2023-24 season. Outside of softball, Wycuff is involved in the Student Athlete Leadership (SALT) program. 

"Jordyn brings a career of experience and winning to the Bobcats! Her passion on the field and desire to be part of something bigger shines when you see her play," Hall said. "On offense she has the power for the long ball and can hit the gap with ease. Jordyn's impact will also be felt behind the dish as a veteran catcher who knows how to lead a field."

She is the daughter of Jordy and Amanda Wycuff, and has one brother, Camden, and one sister, Kadyn. Wycuff enjoys watching football and spending time outside. She plans to major in sports management and minor in journalism with hopes of becoming an athletic director, collegiate coach or broadcaster. 

Sydney Young 
Young, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, comes to Ohio from Saint Albans High School where she was a four-year letter winner. She also played for the Tampa Mustangs Seymour. Young earned First-team All-State honors in 2022 and 2023, as well as First-Team All-Conference honors. 

Young was a state runner-up, PGF National Champion and USA National Champion in 2021.

"Sydney brings the type of work ethic and drive you want in a player. Her commitment to her craft shows in the work she puts in," Hall said. "A righty hitter, Sydney can hit the ball to all fields with power and has an all-in mentality at the plate. She brings versatility to our defense and a consistent bat to our lineup."

She is the daughter of Scott and Liz Young, and has one brother, Preston. She enjoys lifting, writing and hanging out with friends. Young plans to major in sports management and to attend law school after graduation. 

Alexis Book 
Book is from Chillicothe, Ohio, where she was a four-year letterman in softball and basketball, and two-year letterman in track and field at Union-Scioto High School. Book also played for the Ohio Hawks. 

She recorded titles at the league, sectional, district and regional level with Union-Scioto. Book was a three-year First-Team All-League and and All-Distritct nominee. She was also a four-year captain of the softball team and two-year captain of the basketball team. 

"Alexis is what you call a traditional five tool player. She has the power, speed, strength, and athleticism to impact the game at a high level," Hall said. "She's consistent in who she is as a softball player and will bring with her a competitive edge that every team wants. We are excited to add her to a tradition of great Bobcat outfielders."

Outside of softball, Book is a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. She is the daughter of Autumn and Matt Book, and has one brother, Mykal, and one sister, Alivia. Book enjoys watching sports, hanging out with her friends and family, shopping and playing with animals. 

Ally Meyers 
Meyers is a pitcher from Waterville, Ohio, who attended Anthony Wayne High School where she was a two-year letterwinner and 2023 state runner-up. She also made the State Final Four with the Generals in 2021. Meyers played for Finesse Peters 18u as well. 

"Ally is another great addition to our battery on the mound. She brings a culture of winning and success within her playing career. Her strengths on the mound will compliment the staff that we have and add another element to a deep bullpen," Hall said. "She wants to win and you can see it every time she takes the field!"

She is the daughter of Jessica and Chad Meyers, and has one brother, Nathan Webb, and one sister Katelyn. Her father played football at Defiance College. Outside of softball, Meyers is an honor roll student who enjoys reading and math. She plans to major in integrated math and become a math teacher.

Kaylee McDonald 
McDonald, a Westminster, Colorado, native was a four-year letter winner in track and softball for Holy Family High School. She also played for the Colorado Batbusters and Colorado Texas Glory. 

She boasts a .449 batting average and .944 fielding percentage in 82 games played for Holy Family. McDonald collected 110 hits and 80 runs during her career. 

"Kaylee brings an energy and positive vibe to the field that every coach loves. Her offensive impact will be felt right away as a hitter who just hits the ball hard! We are excited to see Kaylee continue to grow as an athlete and give us depth at the corners on defense," Hall said. 

She is the daughter of Jennifer and Daniel McDonald, and has one sister, Jordan, and one brother Jacob. McDonald enjoys photography and playing guitar outside of softball. She plans to major in sports management and minor in sport coaching with a certificate in social media. 

Abby Kennelly 
Kennelly is a Waterville, Ohio, native who played volleyball and softball at Anthony Wayne High School. Kennelly hit over .500 in two seasons for the Generals. She was also a captain for both teams. Kennelly played club softball for Outlaws Sheperd.

She helped lead the Generals to the State Final Four her freshman year and to a state runner-up title her junior year. The Generals also posted a 30-1 record and won their league her sophomore year. 

"Abby will be a great addition to the infield for us. Her high-level defensive skills will bring a lock-down presence up the middle of the field that is always needed. As a left-handed hitter, Abby brings speed to our lineup and a versatility that we love. She is just a player you love to watch play the game," Hall said. 

Kennelly is the daughter of Tim and Kelly Kennelly, and has one sister, Jessica. Her father played golf at Jacksonville University. Outside of softball, she is involved in the Spanish club and student council. She plans to major in exercise science and become a physical therapist or physician's assistant. 

Anna Wise 
Wise joins the Bobcats from Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School, where she was a four-year letter winner and team captain her senior year. She was a First-Team All-State nominee her sophomore and junior year, as well as a Second-Team All Region USA nominee her sophomore year. Wise also played for the Beverly Bandits. 

She set the single-season record for doubles and strikeouts at Brecksville-Broadview her junior year. 

"Anna, as a lefty pitcher, is adding an element to our bullpen that we are excited about. The way she spins the ball from the left side and changes speeds will make an immediate impact in the circle. Along with her skills on the mound, Anna brings a powerful bat to our lineup," Hall said. 

Wise is a native of Brecksville, Ohio, and the daughter of Pamela and Gerald Wise. She has two sisters, Lauren and Katherine. Wise enjoys going to coffee shops and is a member of the German club. She plans to major in nursing.
