GENEVA, N.Y. – Ohio field hockey graduate student forward Katelyn Whittle was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association First Team All-West Region, the NFHCA announced today (Nov. 29). 
 
Whittle (Glenwood, Md.) is the first All-West Region First Team selection for the Bobcats since Louzeth Schutte in 2011. 
 
Whittle led the Ohio offense this season with a career year. Overall, Whittle played and started all 16 matches with a career-high 18 goals and nine assists for a career-high 45 points. She recorded 55 shots with 44 on goal for .800 shots on goal percentage. She also recorded two game-winning goals, while playing 842 minutes.
 
In MAC play, Whittle played and started all seven matches, recording 10 goals and six assists for 26 points. She also has 31 shots with 27 shots on goal for .871 shots on goal percentage in MAC play. This season, Whittle had five multi-goal games, four multi-assist games and 12 multi-point games this season. Her biggest game of the season came on Oct. 20 against Bellarmine, where she scored five goals and had two assists for 12 points in the 8-2 victory. Whittle was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. 
 
Whittle led the MAC in goals, goals per game (1.1), assists and points and is second in shots and shots on goals. Nationally, Whittle finished the season fifth in goals per game and third in points per game.
 
Whittle was also named the MAC Offensive Player of the Year and was selected First Team All-MAC for her season. 
 
The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the NFHCA over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on December 7, followed by the NFHCA All-American teams on December 12 and the NFHCA National Player of the Year on December 15.
