OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Ohio wrestling team finished competition today (Nov. 18) at the Navy Classic finishing in a tie for seventh out of 14 teams. Ohio had 14 wrestlers competing, with three placing.
Redshirt sophomore Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) continued his hot start to the season, finishing in third place in the 165-pound weight class. En route to his third place finish, Thompson knocked off Davidson's Marc Koch by technical fall, won against The Citadel's Ben Haubert in a 12-6 decision, and beat Bucknell's 12th-ranked Noah Mullavey in the third-place match.
Junior Dan Segura (Columbus, Ohio) had a strong performance at the tournament in the 157-pound competition. Segura finished in fifth place with five victories on the day. Segura won his two opening matches by decision before falling to Nebraska's 3rd-ranked Peyton Robb. Segura was able to win the next two matches to take the top spot in the consolation ladder.
Sophomore Derek Raike (Point Pleasant, W. Va.) finished in 6th-place in the 149-pound weight class. Raike won his first match over a Citadel wrestler but would then lose to Davidson's Tyler-Xavier McKnight in a tight decision. Raike would win his next four matches including a technical fall victory before falling in the fifth place to Navy's Nick Vafiadis.
Six other Bobcats picked up multiple victories on the day: junior Sal Perine (Northfield, Ohio), freshman Max Ray (Tiffin, Ohio), sophomore Austin Starr (Indian Creek, Ohio), senior Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio), freshman Ryan Meek (Luebbering, Mo.), and redshirt senior Sean O'Dwyer (Chagrin Falls, Ohio).
With key contributions from a plethora of Bobcat wrestlers, Ohio picked up 58 points. Amidst a field of ranked teams and competitors, the Bobcats fought for a seventh place finish.

The Bobcats will head to Las Vegas, Nevada to take part in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The two-day event will start on Friday, Dec. 1st at 12 p.m. ET. Ohio will look to improve upon a 20th-place finish at last year's meet.
