Ohio Men's Basketball Set to Host Detroit Mercy Saturday Afternoon

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio men's basketball team (1-1) is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 18 when the Bobcats host Detroit Mercy (0-3) in Athens. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. inside the Convocation Center. The Bobcats matchup will be seen on ESPN+ where Russ Eisenstein, Dave Cecutti and Sedric Granger will have the call.

The Bobcats' matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield with Marty Bannister and Rob Cornelius on the call. WXTQ (Power 105) in Athens returns as the 11-station network's flagship. 

STORYLINES
• This is the seventh all-time meeting between Ohio and Detroit Mercy.
• Ohio and Detroit Mercy met a year ago on Nov 16, 2022 in Detroit, with the Titans coming out on top, 88-74.

SCOUTING DETROIT MERCY
Detroit Mercy enters the matchup with the Bobcats with an 0-3 record after falling to Ole Miss, 70-69 Wednesday in Oxford, Miss. 

Overall, Detroit Mercy averages 63.3 points a game, while shooting .458 from the field, .362 from three and .600 from the line. Detroit Mercy also averages 28.3 rebounds a game, 12.7 assists and 6.3 steals a game. The Titans also forces 10.0 turnovers a game. 

Meanwhile, Opponents average 85.7 points and 37.3 rebounds a game. Opponents also shoot .485 from the field, .514 from three and .696 from the line. Opponents also dish out 21.0 assists and grab 8.7 steals a game, while also forcing 16.3 turnovers a game. 

Individually, Jayden Stone averages 20.7 points and 5.7 rebounds a game, while shooting .434 from the field and .417 from three. Donovann Toatley adds 15.5 points a game, while Edoardo Del Cadia averages 12.0 points, 6.3 rebounds a game, and is averaging .632 from the field.

SCOUTING OHIO
Ohio enters the matchup with Detroit Mercy with a 1-1 record after coming off an 82-78 loss at Cleveland State on Nov. 11. 

Overall, Ohio is averaging 83.0 points per game, while shooting .474 from the field, .349 from three and 73.2 percent from the line. The Bobcats also add 34.0 rebounds, 12.0 assists and 9.0 steals per game, while forcing opponents to turn the ball over 13.0 times a game. 

Meanwhile, Opponents are averaging 76.0 points a game, while shooting .403 from the field, .325 from three and .768 from the line. They also average 38.0 rebounds, 9.0 assists, 3.0 steals and force the Bobcats to turn the ball over an average of 8.5 times a game. 

Individually, AJ Brown leads Ohio with 18.0 points a game, while shooting .682 from the field, .714 from three and grabbing 5.5 rebounds. Elmore James is right behind him, averaging 17.0 points, while shooting .520 from the field, .400 from three and .857 from the line, while also snagging 6.0 rebounds. Jaylin Hunter adds 12.0 points and 5.5 assists per game, while Shereef Mitchell adds 11.5 points a game.

Both teams grabbed 33 rebounds, while the Titans dished out 14 assists to Ohio's nine. Ohio also forced 12 turnovers, while committing 15. 

Individually, DeVon Baker scored 16 points, while AJ Clayton scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed four rebounds. Miles Brown added 12 points, while Dwight Wilson III scored eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds. 

For Detroit Mercy, Antoine Davis scored 28 points, while Jayden Stone scored 15 and grabbed five rebounds.

AJB'S RISING STAR
Sophomore guard AJ Brown is looking towards a breakout second season with the Bobcats. 

Brown began that journey effortlessly on No. 8 against Troy, leading Ohio with 24 points, going 10-of-15 from the field and grabbing six rebounds in the 88-70 victory. 

SOPHOMORE YEAR (ELMORE'S VERSION)
Sophomore guard Elmore James is looking to make a name for himself this season. 

That plan started out on the right track on Nov. 8 against Troy, with James scoring 20 points, going 7-of-13 from the field, grabbing six rebounds, snagging two steals and going perfect from the line in Ohio's 88-70 victory over Troy. 

JAYLIN ON THE HUNT
Senior guard Jaylin Hunter is looking to make the most out of his final season. 

In the season opener, Hunter was effective with the ball, dishing out four assists and going a perfect 8-for-8 from the line. 

He then had a 13-point performance at Cleveland State on Nov. 11. 

SHEREEF MAKES HIS DEBUT
Graduate student Shereef Mitchell made his Bobcats' debut on Wednesday night, scoring eight points, dishing out three assists and going 4-for-4 from the line in his 16 minutes off the bench. 

Mitchell followed up his debut with a solid game at Cleveland State on Nov. 11. In his first start as a Bobcats, Mitchell scored a career-high 15 points, going 6-of-12 from the field, while also grabbing five rebounds. 

SHELLY GETTING MINUTES
Sophomore guard Ajay Sheldon is working to get more minutes in his second season in the Green and White.

Sheldon had a career-high seven points on Nov. 11 at Cleveland State, going 2-of-2 from three in 19 minutes.
