Trafford Leads Men's Golf at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio men's golf team wrapped up play today (Oct. 3) at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Cleveland State, took place at Lakewood Country Club over the past two days. 

The three-round event had a field of 15 teams including Butler, IUPUI, Bowling Green, Marshall, Cleveland State, Purdue Fort Wayne, Oakland, Dayton, Robert Morris, Northern Kentucky, Youngstown State, Green Bay, Detroit Mercy, and St. Francis. 

The Bobcats finished in 9th-place, shooting an aggregate even-par score of 852. Butler took home the tournament title after shooting a score of 823 (-29), twelve strokes better than the second place finishers. 

Ohio's highest finisher, sophomore Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio), finished in a tie for 12th after the three rounds with a total score of 209 (-5). Trafford opened up the tournament with a 73 (+2), but responded with two under-par rounds. On Monday afternoon, the sophomore shot a 70 (-1) and took it a step further on Tuesday. Trafford's final round of 66 (-5) pushed him up 16 spots into the top-15 on the leaderboard. 

Also finishing under par for the Bobcats was junior Sam Hogan (Burlington, Canada) with a score of 212 (-1). The junior showed consistency throughout the two-day tournament. Opening with a round of 70 (-1), Hogan shot 71 (E) in the second and third rounds to push him into the top-25, securing a tie for 24th. 

Behind Hogan, senior Jack Neville (Terrace Park, Ohio) and sophomore Will Kates (Centennial, Colorado) finished tied for 40th with a score of 216 (+3). Neville had rounds of 74 (+3), 71 (E), and 71, jumping up a handful of spots during the final round. Kates, last week's winner of the Virtues Intercollegiate, had three rounds with scores of 73 (+2), 68 (-3), and 75 (+4) respectively. 

Sophomore Jack O'Donnell (Powell, Ohio) rounded out the tournament for the Bobcats. With rounds of 73 (+2), 77 (+6), and 75 (+4), O'Donnell finished in a tie for 74th with a tournament score of 225 (+12). 

Up Next: 

The Bobcats will head down to Burlington, N.C. to partake in the Elon Phoenix Invitational. The two-day tournament, beginning on Oct. 16, will be held at Alamance Country Club.
