TOLEDO, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (13-11, 8-4 MAC) defeated Toledo (10-13, 8-4 MAC) in a 3-1 decision (25-19, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21) on Friday.
After missing several matches, graduate student
Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) returned tonight with 20 kills, 22 points and a .500 hitting percentage. In addition to her team-leading offensive statistics, O'Farrell also recorded four block assists.
Freshman
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) has continued to be a top performer for the Bobcats, especially throughout conference play. Hunt finished the match with 15 kills, 12 digs, 16 points and one block.
Junior
Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) made several contributions to Ohio's win over Toledo. Clippard earned 11 kills, three blocks and 13.5 points while Kharchynska added nine kills, four block assists and 11 points.
Senior
Tria McLean led the team from the setter position, tallying 31 assists.
The Bobcats kicked off the match with a 25-19 win in the first set. Ohio dominated Toledo with 18 kills to the Rockets' eight and maintained its lead throughout the entire set.
Toledo answered back with a 25-20 win in the second, tying the match at 1-1.
It was a close battle for the important 2-1 lead as the Bobcats earned a 25-20 victory over Toledo in the third set. With the score sitting at 20-18, the Rockets were within two points of tying Ohio. However, the Bobcats pulled away with a four-point run behind three-straight kills from Clippard. Toledo went on to score two points before Ohio secured the set.
Ohio sealed the 3-1 victory with a 25-21 win in the fourth set, earning its third-straight conference win.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Ball State on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. ET.
