Oxford, OHIO – The Ohio volleyball team (11-11, 6-4 MAC) swept Miami (5-17, 1-9 MAC) 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 26-24) in the opening match of the 'Battle of the Bricks' series on Friday.
Two freshmen Bobcats led Ohio to another conference victory tonight. Freshman
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) shined with 15 kills, points and 10 digs. Hunt recorded season highs in both kills and digs. Freshman
Torre Kildow (Bethesda, Ohio) was Ohio's other top offensive performer as she totaled 11 kills, 15 points, two aces and a .526 hitting percentage.
Defensively, freshman
Emily Waddell (Zionsville, Ind.) tallied a team-high seven blocks while Kildow added four block assists. Seniors
Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) and
Maci Watrous (Coppell, Texas) combined for 21 digs.
Ohio claimed an early 1-0 advantage after earning a 26-24 comeback win in the first set. The Bobcats trailed Miami throughout the second half of the set, but a four-point run launched Ohio past the RedHawks. It was a tight set as both teams had almost even performances across the board.
The Bobcats' comeback in the first set sparked a dominating offensive performance in the second as Ohio strengthened its lead with a 25-19 victory. Ohio outhit Miami 13-9 with less attack attempts, resulting in a .333 team hitting percentage.
Ohio secured the first match of the weekend with a 26-24 win in the third and final set. After being down a couple points, the Bobcats tied Miami 24-24 at set point. Ohio went on to score two more points and sealed its 3-0 sweep over the RedHawks.
The Bobcats will conclude its series with Miami on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
