ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (10-11, 5-4 MAC) concluded its home series against Bowling Green (8-11, 2-6 MAC) with a 3-1 loss (18-25, 23-25, 25-17, 13-25) on Saturday.
It was a rocky start for the Bobcats as Bowling Green secured an early 1-0 advantage with a 25-18 win.
Ohio faced a lot of offensive pressure from the Falcons in the second set. Senior
Maci Watrous (Coppell, Texas) and freshman
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) showed off impressive hustle on defense with four digs each. Although the Bobcats' play had noticeably improved from the prior set, they fell to the Falcons in a close 25-23 decision.
Ohio cut Bowling Green's lead in half after a 25-17 win in the third set. The Bobcats had their best offensive performance so far, outhitting Bowling Green 18-10.
Senior
Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) recorded five kills, junior
Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied four while Hunt and junior
Makenna Schafer (Huron, Ohio) added three apiece. Finishing the set 5-5 on attack, Hoerlein earned herself a perfect offensive performance as Schafer went 3-4 and recorded a .750 hitting percentage. The Green and White maintained its largest lead of the match, defeating the Falcons by eight points off a major block from Hunt and Hoerlein at the end of the set.
Bowling Green ended up taking the match with a 25-13 win in the fourth set.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Miami (OH) on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
