Ohio vs. BG WSOC Recap

Women's Soccer Jacob Myers

Ohio Soccer Falls to Bowling Green

Box Score ATHENS, Ohio – The Bobcats (4-5-2) fell to the Falcons of Bowling Green (5-4-1) this Sunday (Oct. 1) by a score of 2-0 at Chessa Field.

On the box score, the Bobcats put up 10 shots in comparison to Bowling Green's seven, with two coming on target from Ohio. Bowling Green had five of their seven of their shots go on target. Ohio had two corners in comparison to Bowling Green's three.

Sophomore goalkeeper Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) finished the game with three saves, allowing two goals for a save percentage of 60%.

The Bobcats defended well in the early portions of the first half, with Sloma making an early save. The Bobcats tried to throw a few balls into the zone, but with no reward through the first 15 minutes. The Bobcats then fell down 1-0 in the 20th minute after a ricochet in the box found a Falcon, who found the back of the net.

The Falcons continued to mount pressure, but Sloma was able to make saves to keep the Bobcats in the contest early. Both teams remained in a stalemate into the last 10 minutes of the first half. The Bobcats fired two late shots courtesy of freshman Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.) and freshman Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) but were unable to find the net. The Bobcats finished the half with four shots, with one coming on goal. As a team, Ohio had one corner, and Sloma finished with three saves.

The second half started the same way the first half ended with both sides going back and forth. However, in the 54th minute, the Falcons were able to extend their lead to two. The Falcons' shot was just too far for Sloma, who's outreached leg could not get to the ball.

The Bobcats continued to mount pressure, but with little tangible success. Senior Julianna Farina (Wenonah, N.J.) received a corner in front of net from redshirt senior Haley Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio), but was unable to head the ball into the net, narrowly missing above the bar. The Bobcats' deficit remained two in the last 10 minutes, and continued until the final whistle as the Bobcats fell by two.

The Bobcats now move to 4-5-2 on the season and 2-2-0 in MAC play.
