ATHENS, OH.– The Ohio women's basketball team (2-14, 0-5 MAC) will get back on the road and travel instate to Oxford, where they wil faceoff against the Miami Redhawks (7-11, 2-3 MAC). The rivalry will tipoff at 1 pm inside Millett Hall and can be streamed on ESPN3.
ALL-TIME SERIES
There is a long history behind the Ohio Bobcats and the Miami Redhawks that dates back to the founding of the universities. This history created a rivalry between the two teams that has evolved throughout the years. Currently the all-time series in women's basketball stands at 39-58, with Miami taking the lead.
LAST TIME OUT
The last time the Bobcats faced off against the Miami Redhawks was in March of 2022. The game was played at home in the Convocation center where the Bobcats pulled off a 73-64 win. This was Ohio's redemption after they fell to Miami earlier in the season, losing 60-63 on January 17th. In the most recent matchup between the rivals, Ohio was led by three players who have since graduated; Cece Hooks, Gabby Burris, and Erica Johnson. However, not far behind these seniors was Yaya Felder with double figures in points and 3 defensive rebounds.
MAC PLAY
Both teams are well into MAC play for the 2022-23 season with 5 games under their belts. Ohio has fallen to: Akron, Kent State, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan. Miami stands at 2 and 3, defeating Kent State and Northern Illinois but falling to Ball State, Akron, and Eastern Michigan. Both the Bobcats and the Redhawks have faced strong competitors and are seeking a MAC win to improve their current records.
SCOUTING MIAMI
Miami most recently took on Northern Illinois on the road and came out victorious, 74-69. This was their fourth MAC game and second conference win. The Redhawks were led by Ivy Wolf who had 23 points, followed by Peyton Scott with 18, and Maddi Cluse with 15. In terms of defense, Miami was most recently led by Maddi Cluse with 10 and Peyton Scott with 9. In this matchup, Miami collected 43 rebounds, 10 assists, and 4 steals.
REDHAWKS NON-CONFERENCE SEASON
In the weeks leading up to MAC play, Miami went back and forth between wins and losses. They opened up at home falling to Xavier (68-87), but defeated Vermont (79-73) shortly after. The Redhawks then were stuck in a losing streak falling to Memphis (51-76), Western Kentucky (55-91), and Evansville (72-97). Miami then won back to back against Loyola Chicago (79-53) and Eastern Kentucky (73-68). Miami also fell to Northern Kentucky (66-75), but redeemed themselves in a 56-82 win against Bradley. To finish out their non-conference schedule the Redhawks faced 3 challenging teams losing to Oakland (74-82), San Diego State (57-66), and West Virginia (51-82).
LEADING MIAMI
Miami of Ohio is currently being led by Sophomore Ivy Wolf with 330 total points from the season this far, averaging 18.3. Not far behing Wolf is Maddi Cluse with 272 total points, averaging 15.1 a game and Peyton Scott with 206 accumulated points, averaging 13.7. Clus and Wolf are both sophomores and are controlling the offense for the Redhawks, whereas Senior Peyton Scott is also leading on the defense with 28 steals. Sierra Morrow has also been key for Miami on the defense with 27 blocks. In terms of rebounding it is Maddi Cluse at the top with 137.
OHIO'S MOST RECENT STATS
The Bobcats ended their last game going 20 for 55 (36.4%) on field goal attempts, 8-20 (40.0%) from the three point line and seeing the line 11 times going 9 for 11 (81.8.0%) in free throws. The Bobcats also grabbed 37 rebounds, had 8 steals, and 14 assists.
LAST TO LEAD OHIO
In the Bobcats last contest on Wednesday the 18th, they faced Western Michigan where Yaya Felder led Ohio once more in scoring. Felder snagged 17 points and behind her was Jasmine Hale with 13 points and Caitlyn Kroll with 11. In terms of defense, Ella pope had 2 blocks and 4 rebounds, followed by Abby Garnett with 1 block and 6 rebounds. Jasmine Hale led in rebounds grabbing 7.
NOW LEADING OHIO
Overall, the Ohio Bobcats have been led by Yaya Felder in scoring for the majority of this season. Felder currently holds the lead in total points for the Bobcats with 298 points. Caitlyn Kroll follows Felder in scoring with 147 points, then Abby Garnet with 119 points. Caitlyn Kroll leads Ohio in rebounds, totaling 86; 76 defensive rebounds and 10 offensive. In terms of steals Yaya holds 39 for the season and Kroll is behind with 31.
