BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Ohio volleyball team (8-6, 2-1 MAC) fell to Bowling Green (8-6, 3-0 MAC) in three sets (17-25, 16-25, 22-25) on Friday (Sept. 30) inside the Stroh Center.
Despite Ohio edging out Bowling Green 35-34 in kills, the Bobcats were hindered by 26 errors, many of which were forced by Falcon blocks. The Bobcats matched Bowling Green with 33 assists and outdug the Falcons 43-37, but it was not enough for Ohio to bring home the win.
In sets one and two, Bowling Green put together impressive runs to reach 15 first. The Bobcats were able to put together runs of their own, but the Falcons managed to maintain their lead. Set three was a different story, with Ohio in the battle for the lead early on. Despite seven ties, a 4-0 run by Bowling Green put the Falcons in front, and the Bobcats were unable to force a fourth set. Ohio ultimately fell to BGSU, 3-0.
Sophomore outside hitter Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) led Ohio offensively with nine kills, while middle blockers Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) and Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) followed with six and five. Junior setter Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) collected 19 assists, while senior setter Parker Kwiatkowski (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and junior libero Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) tallied six apiece. Steele led the match in digs with 11 and was followed by junior defensive specialist Maci Watrous (Coppell, Texas) and McLean who collected eight and seven. McLean also picked up two aces while Kwiatkowski registered one.
The Bobcats will return to the Stroh Center tomorrow (Oct. 1) to take on the Falcons once more at 4 p.m. ET.
