ATHENS, Ohio— Ohio football alumnus
Will Evans (Augusta, Ga.) has earned an invite to rookie minicamp from the New York Giants.
Evans played in all 12 games for the Bobcats in 2021, recording 33 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. After recording a season-high two sacks and a forced fumble against Akron (Oct. 2), Evans was named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week on October 4. He was named a team captain in 2019 and played in all 13 games, logging a career-high 35 total tackles (20 solo, 15 assisted), including a career-high 7.5 tackles for loss and a sack, and forced a fumble.
Evans started all 13 games in 2018, finishing with 19 solo tackles and 10 assisted with six tackles for loss and two sacks. He also earned Spring AD Honor Roll recognition. After redshirting in 2016, Evans saw action in 11 games in the 2017 season, totaling 15 tackles, one and one-half sacks, and three and a half tackles for loss for 11 yards.
Prior to Ohio, Evans recorded 225 total tackles including 85 solo stops, 35.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception as a defensive end and linebacker at Aquinas High School, where he led his team to the 2013 state championship, 2014 state semifinal appearance and a state runner-up finish in 2015. Evans was all-area, all-region and all-state as a junior. As a senior, he logged 55 tackles, eight sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery while also serving as team captain. Evans was named to the 2016 Dream 16 Team, high school MVP and 7A Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.
