ATHENS, Ohio— The Ohio baseball team (27-21, 19-14) opened their final homestand of the season with an 8-5 victory over Western Michigan (17-34, 14-22).
Individually, redshirt freshman
Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored while senior
Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. On the mound, fifth year
Edward Kutt IV (Westlake, Calif.) pitched eight innings, drawing 15 ground outs while striking out six.
The Broncos took an early lead, scoring their first run in the top of the second. Redshirt senior
Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-RBI single, putting the Bobcats ahead, 2-1.
Two Western Michigan home runs in the third let Ohio trailing, 4-2. After a scoreless fourth, fifth year
Isaiah Peterson (Lincoln, Neb.) tied the game with a two-run homer to center field. Later that inning, fifth year
Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) scored off a ground out, giving Ohio a 5-4 lead. The Bobcats extended their lead in the sixth; back-to-back home runs from graduate student
Cael Baker (Gahanna, Ohio) and Dolan followed by a Kasperbauer single gave Ohio a four-run lead.
Western Michigan took advantage of a ground out in the seventh, scoring one run and cutting the Bobcats' lead to three runs. After Kutt stranded two in the eighth, fifth year
Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) face four batters in the top of the ninth, securing Ohio's 8-5 victory.
