MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—The Ohio baseball team (11-10, 5-5 MAC) dropped both games today (April 2) against Central Michigan (12-10, 7-1 MAC), falling 5-1 in the first game and 8-3 in the second.
GAME ONE
After three scoreless innings, Central Michigan struck, taking a 3-0 lead with two sacrifice flies and an RBI single. They extended their lead in the sixth with an RBI double down the left field line, driving in one run.
Redshirt freshman
AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio) cut into Central Michigan's lead in the seventh with a double to left field, scoring redshirt senior
Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) to leave the Bobcats' trailing 4-1.
The Chippewas bounced back in the bottom of the inning, scoring their fifth and final run on a single to center field.
Individually, junior
Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) and Rausch both went 1-for-3 at the plate. On the mound, fifth year
Edward Kutt IV (Westlake, Calif.) pitched four complete innings with four strikeouts while fifth year
Chace Harris (New Marshfield, Ohio) completed the game, registering six strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Senior
Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) got the ball rolling for the Bobcats in the top of the first, driving in fifth year
Isaiah Peterson (Lincoln, Neb.) with a single. The next at-bat, Kasperbauer scored off a double from redshirt senior
Spencer Harbert (Middletown, Del.), giving Ohio a 2-0 lead. In the third inning, Kasperbauer extended Ohio's lead with an RBI double.
Central Michigan struck in the fifth, tying the game a single and a double. A two-RBI single gave the Chippewas a 5-3 lead heading into the sixth. Central Michigan continued to build on their lead, scoring three additional runs off a fielder's choice, double and a fly out. Unable to score in the seventh, the Bobcats fell 8-3.
Individually, Peterson went 3-for-3 while Kasperbauer and Harbert went 2-for-4. On the mound, freshman
Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) got the start, going 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow (April 3) for a second doubleheader against Central Michigan. Game one is set to start at noon.
