ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio wrestling team finished ninth overall at the 2022 Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championships with 61.5 points.
At 125 pounds, redshirt sophomore
Oscar Sanchez (Genoa, Ohio) won his semifinal match with an 11-4 decision, advancing to the fifth-place match against Tristain Daugherty (Buffalo). After tying in overtime, 3-3, Daugherty won on riding time and Sanchez placed sixth.
After a 10-6 decision in his consolation semifinal match, redshirt junior
Giovanni DiSabato (Hilliard, Ohio) took fourth in the 133-pound, dropping the third-place match by a 5-2 decision. At 149 pounds, redshirt senior
Alec Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) defeated Caleb Tyus (SIUE) with a 4-3 decision to take seventh place after dropping his consolation quarterfinals match.
Redshirt sophomore
Jordan Slivka (Indianapolis, Ind.) won the 157-pound consolation semifinal with a 6-0 decision, advancing to the third-place match against Michael Petite (Buffalo). In a 4-3 decision, Slivka lost, placing fourth in the 157-pound bracket.
Freshman
Sal Perrine (Northfield, Ohio) was the sole Bobcat to advance to the championship match, representing Ohio in the 174-pound bracket. He dropped the match, losing by a 7-5 decision to Mason Kauffman (Northern Illinois). Perrine finished third after Jay Nivison (Buffalo) challenged Perrine, claiming True Second and one of the guaranteed spots at the NCAA Championships with a 3-2 decision. Sophomore
Carson Brewer (Avon, Ind.) placed eighth in the 197-bracket due to a medical forfeit.
UP NEXT
The NCAA Tournament is set to take place March 17-19 in Detroit. The remaining remaining 44 at-large qualifiers will be announced on March 8, while brackets and seeding will be announced on March 9.
