EVANSVILLE, Ind.-- The Ohio baseball team (3-5) was defeated 12-5 by Evansville (3-7) on Saturday (March 5) afternoon at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
The Bobcats fell behind early after a wild pitch by senior starting pitcher
Jack Liberatore (Greensboro, Pa.) brought one run to the plate. In the second inning, Brent Widder and Danny Borgstrom each hit solo home runs that pushed the Aces' lead to three runs.
Ohio battled back in the third inning as fifth year senior
Isaiah Peterson (Lincoln, Neb.) hit a two-out double down the left field line and senior
Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) hit another double to score Peterson for the fourth time in two games. After another run from Evansville in the third inning, the Bobcats scored again as fifth year
Treyben Funderburg (Beavercreek, Ohio) singled to bring in senior
Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa).
Unfortunately, the Bobcats were at too much of a deficit after Evansville scored five runs in the fourth inning. The Aces had an offensive flurry with two doubles and two singles that gave them a six-run lead heading into the fifth inning.
Ohio kept battling, though, and scored in both the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth inning, redshirt freshman
Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) hit a solo home run down the left field line. Kasperbauer would then add to Ohio's run total in the seventh inning as he hit a single to center field to score Richardson.
The Aces tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning to extend their lead to eight. The Bobcats added another run in the ninth inning as Funderburg singled again to score Richardson from second base.
