Ohio Wrestling Wraps Up Day One of MAC Wrestling Championships

ATHENS, Ohio— The Ohio wrestling team completed the first day of the 2022 Mid-American Wrestling Championship. Overall, the team currently sits in ninth place with 50 points.

At 125 pounds, redshirt sophomore Oscar Sanchez (Genoa, Ohio) had a bye the first round. In the quarterfinals, he went into overtime against Tristan Daugherty (Buffalo), losing 6-4. He moved on to the consolation quarterfinals round, where he registered an 8-0 major decision over Bryce West (Northern Illinois). He is set to take on Bryce West (Northern Illinois) tomorrow in the consolation quarterfinals. 

Redshirt junior Giovanni DiSabato (Hilliard, Ohio) is representing the Bobcats in the 133-pound bracket. After a bye in the first round, he went into overtime against Cole Rhone (Bloomsburg), snagging a 4-2 decision in the first sudden victory period. In the semifinals, a takedown gave Derek Spann (Buffalo) the lead, defeating DiSabato by a 5-4 decision. After losing in the first round at 141 pounds, redshirt senior Kyran Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) had a bye in the first consolation round. He took on George Mason's Kaden Cassidy in the second consolation round, losing by a decision of 6-3. 

In the 149-pound bracket, redshirt senior Alec Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) won his first round with a 9-4 decision over Rider's Bryan Miraglia. His quarterfinal match against Alex Madrigal (George Mason) went into overtime where he ultimately lost, 6-4. In the second consolation round, Hagan defeated Ryan Burgos (Edinboro) in a 9-3 decision win to advance to the consolation quarterfinals.

In the 157-pound bracket, redshirt sophomore Jordan Slivka (Indianapolis, Ind.) defeated defeated Max Kristoff (SIUE) in the first round with a technical fall. In the quarterfinals, he matched up with Anthony Gibson (Northern Illinois) and defeated him in a 5-0 decision win. Slivka was eventually defeated in the semifinal round by Ben Barton in overtime via a 4-2 sudden victory win. Slivka will wrestle again on Saturday in the consolation semifinals.

In the 165-pound bracket, redshirt sophomore Sean O'Dwyer (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) was defeated in the first round by Brady Chrisman (Kent State) in a 10-3 decision loss. In the second consolation round, O'Dwyer was defeated by fall at 2:18 by Noah Grover (Buffalo).

At 174 pounds, freshman Sal Perrine (Northfield, Ohio) defeated Anthony Rice (Cleveland St.) by fall at 2:25 in his first-round matchup. Perrine went on to defeat Tyler Stoltzfus (Lock Haven) in the quarterfinals via a major decision 13-5 win. In the semifinals, the freshman defeated John Worthing (Clarion) to advance to the MAC Championship after his 4-3 decision win.

At 184 pounds, freshman Zayne Lehman (Akron, Ohio) was defeated by Mark Wohlabaugh (Clarion) via a 3-2 decision loss in the first round. Lehman was defeated again in the first consolation round in a 5-2 decision loss against Colin Fegley (Lock Haven).

In the 197-pound bracket, redshirt sophomore Carson Brewer (Avon, Ind.) represented the Bobcats. Brewer won his first match against Jon List (George Mason) with an 8-5 decision. In the quarterfinals, Brewer was defeated by Will Feldkamp (Clarion) in an 8-1 decision. In the second consolation round, Brewer took a 9-5 decision win over Tristin Guaman (Northern Illinois) to advance to the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday. He will face Ryan Yarnell (SIUE).

At 285 pounds, sophomore Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio) took an 8-5 decision win over Shane Noonan (Bloomsburg) in his first-round matchup. Greer was defeated in the quarterfinals by Tyler Bagoly (Clarion) in a 3-2 decision. In the second consolation round, Greer was defeated by Max Millin (Edinboro) via fall at 1:07.

UP NEXT 
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow (March 5) for day two of the 2022 MAC Wrestling Championships. The consolation quarterfinals start at 11:30. The championship series is set for 3 p.m.
