Ohio Baseball Has Offensive Explosion in Win Over Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-- The Ohio baseball team (11-8, 5-3 MAC) dominated Bowling Green (3-16, 1-9 MAC), 21-6 on Saturday afternoon (March 26) at Steller Field.

The Bobcats' offense exploded, scoring 21 runs in just seven innings with 17 hits and five home runs. Seven different Bobcats registered multiple hits led by fifth year center fielder Isaiah Peterson (Lincoln, Neb.) and redshirt freshman right fielder AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio), who each tallied five RBIs. Rausch got on base in all four of his at bats with a single, double, home run and a walk. The Bobcats also got two home runs each from Peterson and senior catcher Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.).

Ohio entered the fourth inning with a 4-2 lead after home runs from both Peterson and Rausch, but blew the game open as Peterson hit a grand slam for his second home run of the game to extend the lead to five runs. The Bobcats weren't finished as senior infielder Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) doubled to bring in a run and scored on a wild pitch a couple of batters later. Rausch added two more runs on a double after the Falcons made a pitching change and junior designated hitter Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) cleared the bases with two outs to bring Ohio to a 15-3 lead. Overall in the fourth inning, the Bobcats scored 11 runs on five hits.

They kept the scoring going with another run when Minzey registered his first home run of the game in the fifth inning. Minzey homered again in the seventh inning as Ohio delivered the final blow with five more runs.

With the large lead, Ohio was also strong defensively with three good pitching performances. Redshirt sophomore Jacob Tate (Louisville, Tenn.) took the start and went three innings with three runs and six hits with four strikeouts. Fifth year reliever Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) came in for the next two innings and allowed just three unearned runs on three hits and five strikeouts. Senior Brenden Roder (Sioux City, Iowa) finished the game off with two innings and no runs on two hits and three strikeouts.
