ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio football team held its first of 15 spring practices today (March 15) inside Walter Fieldhouse.
"We just finished up practice number one this morning, bright and early with tons of energy. I'm really excited about the work ethic that I'm seeing not only from the staff but from the team," said head coach
Tim Albin. "Without a question, spring ball is very important. You need to find your best 11 players, so we want great competition at all positions. We're also working on getting schemes to fit personnel in offense, defense and special teams. Putting your best players on the field at the right times is essential."
Spring ball practice provides an opportunity for returning student-athletes to compete alongside a portion of the freshmen class that enrolled for the spring semester. According to Albin, getting student-athletes in time for spring practice is like getting an extra four or five games.
"There are lots of benefits when the freshmen are able to participate in spring practices. They're not as stressed out in the fall and they're able to focus on the most important task, academics, as well as football.
Ohio kicks off the 2022 regular season on Saturday, September 3 at Peden Stadium against Florida Atlantic. Television platforms, along with game times, will be announced at a later date.
