Ohio Baseball Falls to USC Upstate in Series Finale

SPARTANBURG, S.C.— The Ohio baseball team (1-2) fell 14-2 in the series finale against USC Upstate (2-1) on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 20) at Harley Park.
The Bobcats fell behind early when the Spartans took advantage of a few Ohio errors, scoring four unearned runs in the third inning. The Bobcats answered in the fourth inning; an infield fly from graduate student Cael Baker (Gahana, Ohio) put Ohio on the board and brought in Baker's first RBI as a Bobcat.Â
USC Upstate added to its lead, though, as the Spartans scored 10 more runs, only one earned, in the fifth inning. Ohio battled back with three scoreless innings of defense behind relief pitchers senior Colin Sells (Lancaster, Ohio) and freshman Zach Weber (Lebanon, Ohio).
Ohio scored the final run of the game when Nick Dolan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
UP NEXT
The Bobcats will return to action next weekend as they head to Richmond, Ky. to take on Eastern Kentucky in a three-game series.
