Ohio Women's Basketball Falls to George Washington on the Road

Wasington, D.C. –The Ohio Bobcats (2-5, 0-0 MAC) battled the George Washington Colonials (5-4, 0-0 A10) but ultimately, fell 57-74. Ohio was led by Yaya Felder with 20 points and 4 rebounds, followed by Caitlyn Kroll with 10 points and 5 rebounds. 

The first quarter was at 5-6 before the Colonials grabbed the lead and held onto it, ending the first 10 minutes with a lead of 23-17. Ohio was led by Caitlyn Kroll in the first with 8 points and 2 defensive rebounds. Behind Kroll was Yaya Felder with 6 points on the boards and 1 defensive rebound. Jaya McClure also had 2 assists with others coming from Kate Dennis and Ella Pope

In the second quarter Ohio came out strong with an immediate 3-pointer from Yaya Felder to close the gap, making the score 20-23 with the Bobcats back in it. GW responded to the heightened Ohio offense and held up to a 12 point lead. The Bobcats were able to add 11 more points to the board and snagged 7 rebounds. The score going into half sat at 28-38. 

To start the second half of the contest, there were shots going up from both sides consistently, with the Bobcats trying to close in on the Colonials. This was Yaya's highest scoring quarter of the game putting up 11 points to get the score to 45-59 entering the fourth quarter. Felder and Kroll also held 2 rebounds a piece to make the score only a 6 point difference going into the last 10 minutes.

In the fourth and final quarter of the non-conference matchup, the Colonials came out strong offensively stretching the lead in their direction. Ohio was unable to recover from the increasing GW lead and ultimately fell 57-74, with Jaya McClure leading the Bobcats in scoring. Jaya added 5 points to the board in the last 10 minutes to help keep Ohio in the competition.  

Overall, the Bobcats ended the game with a FG% of .345 (19-55), a  3PT% of .385 (10-26), and a FT% of .750 (9-12). Ohio also accumulated 22 rebounds, 12 steals, and 14 assists.

The Ohio Bobcats will return to Athens to play the Cincinnati Bearcats at the Convocation Center on Tuesday, Dec. 13th. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN3/+.
