Four Player's Reach Double Figures to Defeat Indiana State on the Road

Terre Haute, Ind. – The Ohio women's basketball team (1-4, 0-0 MAC) traveled back to Indiana to play the Sycamores (2-2 , 0-0 MVC), securing their first win of the 2022-23 season. During the contest, both teams proved to be solid on defense, leaving it to the Ohio offense to get the job done. Caitlyn Kroll, Yaya Felder, Kendall Hale, and Jaya McClure all reached double figures in scoring to push Ohio towards the 74-62 win over Indiana State. 

The first quarter went back and forth between the Bobcats and Sycamores with the score being even at 12-12, 15-15, and 21-21, throughout the first 10 minutes of play. It way Yaya Felder who  went for 1 and 2 at the free throw line to get Ohio up by 1 to start the 2nd quarter 22-21. Felder also led in rebounds during the 1st, snagging 2 offensive and 4 defensive. Caitlyn Kroll also had a vital start with three 3PT's that changed the pace of play and added 9 to the score board. 

Ohio continued to score at the start of the second quarter going on a 7-0 run against Indiana State to increase  their lead to 29-21. Indiana State was able to get back on the boards with a 3 point jumper, shrinking the Ohio lead and ultimately bringing the score down to a 2 point difference, 34-32, with the Sycamores trailing. Both teams seemed eager to compete with multiple rebounds, blocks, and steals in the 2nd quarter. Ohio was up 36-32 at the end of the quarter, making it a close matchup going into the 2nd half 

Going out for the 3rd quarter, Indiana State hit a 3-pointer from the wing to make it a point game. Ohio fought back immediately with Caitlyn Kroll assisting a 3 point jump shot from Yaya Felder and then a layup in the paint from Kendall Hale to get the score at 41-35. The Bobcats continued to score with a FG% of 66.7, making it their highest scoring quarter of the game with 24 points and ending the 3rd with a 9 point lead at 60-51. 

The momentum rolled over for Ohio in the fourth and final quarter with 10 points in the paint. Scoring was led in the last 10 minutes by Kendall Hale and Yaya Felder having 5 points each, adding to Felder's 15 point game and Kendall Hale's 16 point game. Ohio collected 14 points in the last quarter, but held strong on their defense with 8 rebounds, 2 steals; 1 from Ella Pope and the other from Kendall Hale.

Individually, Caitlyn Kroll reached double digits and led the Bobcats in scoring with 19 points. Kroll also snagged 6 defensive rebounds and 5 assists. Yaya Felder led the team in assists with 9 in tonight's game and collected the most rebounds with 9 overall; 4 offensive and 5 offensive. Jaya McClure was the fourth player to reach double digits in tonight's scoring for Ohio, recording 11 points. Overall, the Bobcats ended the game with a FG% of 44.3 (27-61), a  3PT% of 33.3 (10-30), and a FT% of 62.5 (10-16).

The Ohio Bobcats will stay on the road and play Dayton this Tuesday, Nov. 29th. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
