Derek Raike dominating the 149-pound bracket and
Jordan Slivka's second-place finish at 165 pounds, the Ohio wrestling team competed at the Navy Classic today (Nov. 19). As a team, the Bobcats finished seventh with 86 points.
At 125 pounds, redshirt junior
Oscar Sanchez (Genoa, Ohio) bounced back quickly from a first-round loss with an 11-3 major decision. Back-to-back decisions put him in the fifth-place match; Sanchez lost by just one point to finish sixth.
Raike (Point Pleasant, W.Va.) and Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) both remained undefeated in the 149-pound bracket, meeting in the first-place match. After three periods, the two were tied, 2-2, sending the dual into overtime. Hagan ultimately came out on top in the second tie-breaker period due to riding time.
The Bobcats had three top-eight finishers in the 157-pound bracket: redshirt freshman
Peyten Kellar (Cutler, Ohio) finished third, redshirt freshman
Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) finished sixth and sophomore
Dan Segura (Columbus, Ohio) placed seventh. Kellar fell in the quarterfinals, sending him straight to the third-place match, where he pinned Nebraska's Antrell Taylor at 2:50. Thompson was dominant in the consolation bracket, with Thompson racking up a technical fall and two major decisions before taking on Segura. Thompson pinned Segura at 1:32, advancing to the fifth-place match, where he was defeated by a 9-2 decision.
At 165 pounds, Slivka shut out Nebraska's Jagger Condomitti in the quarterfinals, winning with an 8-0 major decision. He defeated Caleb Fish (Michigan State) in the semifinals by a narrow margin of 4-3, but dropped a tight championship match, placing second after a 3-0 loss.
Sophomore
Sal Perrine (Northfield, Ohio) advanced to the 174-pound semifinals with two decisions, but lost 3-2 in the semifinals to Nebraska's Elise Brown Ton. Perrine bounced back in the third-place bout, defeating Ben Haubert (Citadel) by an 8-3 decision. Sophomore
Zayne Lehman (Akron, Ohio) opened the 184-pound bracket with a 5-0 victory over Hunter Johns (Navy). After a few victories in the consolation bracket, he met Johns again, securing seventh place with an 11-0 major decision.
Up next, the Bobcats travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Cliff Keen Last Vegas Invitational from Dec. 2-3.
