AKRON, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (13-8, 7-3 MAC) swept Akron (5-16, 2-8 MAC) (25-18, 25-22, 25-13) on Friday (Oct. 21) in the opening match of this weekend's series inside the James A. Rhodes Arena.

Ohio hit a stellar .404 to Akron's .134, registering 46 kills, 43 assists, and 41 digs to the Zips' 34 kills, 31 assists, and 31 digs.

The Bobcats got out to a hot start in set one, hitting .560. Akron began closing in on Ohio, but a 5-1 run at the end of the first secured the set for the Bobcats.

The Zips slowed down the pace in set two, forcing 10 ties and five lead changes. Despite Akron tying the set up at 22-22, Ohio was able to pull away, putting the Bobcats up 2-0.

Ohio carried that momentum into set three, only surrendering 13 points. The Bobcats went on a 4-1 run to close the set and defeat the Zips 3-0.

Senior middle blocker Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) dominated on the court, tallying 14 kills off 23 attacks for a .565 hitting percentage. Outside hitters Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) and Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) followed with eight kills apiece.

Setters Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) and Parker Kwiatkowski (Grand Rapids, Mich.) both recorded 10+ assists, with McLean posting 19 and Kwiatkowski adding 15. Additionally, McLean achieved a double-double with a match-high 13 digs.

Other defensive standouts where juniors Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) and Maci Watrous (Coppell, Texas) who each collected eight digs.
