ATHENS, Ohio – After a month on the road, the Ohio Volleyball team returned to Athens to open Mid-American Conference play, completing the three-set sweep of Toledo (25-14, 26-24, 25-19) Friday evening at the Convocation Center.
"It's great being home," head coach Geoff Carlston said. "Toledo's a really great team and had a great preseason. To be here, in front of our own fans and to play like we played, especially in the second set. We had a pretty good lead and to be able to grind through that was cool. It was an emotional win. It's been a heck of a month and I'm excited and proud of them."Â
The Bobcats attacked at .200 pace to sweep all three sets against the Rockets. Ohio cruised to a 25-14 first set victory, closing out the set on a 7-0 run. The Bobcats and Rockets went wire-to-wire during the second set, prevailing 26-24. Ohio went on to dominat the third set, 25-19 to seal the win.Â
Junior outside hitter Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) led the Bobcats with 13 kills, a block and hit of .205 in the three-set sweep. Freshman outside hitter Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) followed with 12 kills of her own, ending the match with a match high attack percentage of .375. Sophomore setter Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) led the team with 19 assists while sophomore Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) made 24 digs.
The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow (September 25th) as they look to sweep Toledo at 2 p.m. in the Convocation Center. The game can be seen on ESPN+.Â
