Ohio Volleyball Concludes Play at WKU Volleyball Invite

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Ohio Volleyball team was defeated by Lipscomb, 1-3 (25-18, 20-25, 18-25, 17-25), and Austin Peay, 2-3 (25-22, 25-20, 14-25, 19-25, 11-25), on Saturday (Sept. 18) in Diddle Arena to close the WKU Invitational. 

In the first match, the Bobcats got off strong start and secured the first set. Hitting .500 with 17 kills and only three errors, Ohio dominated Lipscomb. The Bison battled back, taking the next three sets and eventual win. 

Fifth year opposite hitter Maggie Nedoma (Brook Park, Ohio) led the Bobcats in kills with 14 and aided the defensive with five block assists. Sophomore middle blocker Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) was also a key defensive player, adding 7 block assists. Freshman outside hitter Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) hit .381 with 10 kills, while junior middle blocker Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) hit .412 with 9 kills. Sophomore setter Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) tallied 36 assists and seven digs and sophomore libero/defensive specialist Maci Watrous (Coppell, Texas) adding 13 digs and four assists.

In the second match, Ohio got a promising start and took the first two sets. However, the Governors came back determined to win and swept the final three sets. 

Despite the loss, Nedoma, Clippard, and O'Farrell controlled the match in kills once again. Nedoma led with 19 and Clippard and O'Farrell followed with 16 and 10. Hoerlein continued to be strong defensively and recorded two solid blocks and five block assists, while Watrous put up 22 digs. McLean achieved her first double-double of the season with 48 assists and 12 digs.

Up next, the Bobcats will make their return to the Convo to begin conference play. Ohio is set to take on Toledo Sept. 24 at 7 P.M. EST.
