ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio field hockey team (2-6, 2-4 MAC) fell to Appalachian State (5-5, 4-4 Sun Belt), 2-0, in the second game of a two-game series on Saturday (April 3) afternoon at Pruitt Field.
The Bobcats' defense held strong for most of the game despite only playing with 10 players.
Pauline Mangold scored the first goal for Appalachian State in the fourth minute. The Bobcats defense held strong until the fourth quarter when Meghan Smart extended the Mountaineers' lead to two with a goal in the 50th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Macy Lotze (Louisville, Ky.) made her first career start in net for the Bobcats. She made eight saves on ten shots on goal. The Ohio defense also didn't allow a goal on any of the Mountaineers' four penalty corners.
Offensively, the Bobcats put three shots on goal on five total attempts. Sophomore midfielder Lucy Davis (Kettering, Ohio) led the team with three shot attempts with two on goal. All ten Ohio players played the full 60 minutes of the game.
The Bobcats will return to action on Friday (April 9) afternoon at Longwood in Farmville, Va. for another two-game series.
