ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio field hockey team (2-5, 2-5 MAC) fell to Appalachian State (4-5, 3-4 MAC), 2-1, on Friday (April 2) at Pruitt Field.
The Mountaineers got the scoring started in the 18th minute. The goal came from Sarah Farrell and was the only one scored in the first half.
The Bobcats responded in the beginning of the third to get themselves back in the game. Senior midfielder Jillian Shive (Lebanon, Ohio) obtained her fifth goal of the season to make the score 1-1 in the 30th minute.
Appalachian State fought back to put up another goal after Friederike Stegen scored in the 54th minute. Despite outshooting the Mountaineers 11-10, the Bobcats ultimately fell to Appalachian State.
Ohio put eight shots on goal and had four penalty corners for the game. Junior goalkeeper Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) faced nine shots on goal and saved seven of them. Of the eight shots on goal that Appalachian State's goalkeeper faced, Addie Clark was able to save seven of them.
The Bobcats will return to Pruitt Field on Saturday (April 3) for their second match against the Mountaineers. First touch is set for 1:30 p.m.
