MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Senior designated hitter Isaiah Peterson (Lincoln, Neb.) hit a grand slam, but the Ohio baseball team (6-4) ultimately fell to host Morehead State (5-6) on Tuesday (March 9) at Allen Field.
The Bobcats found themselves trailing, 3-0, after one inning of play but retaliated with five runs in the top of the second inning and another in the third, thanks in large part to Peterson's second-inning grand slam that put the visitors in front.
Unfortunately for Ohio, Morehead State put up a seven-spot in the fifth to take a 10-6 lead and never trailed again.
The Eagles narrowly outhit the Bobcats, 14-13, but collected six extra-base hits, with Oho's lone extra-base hit being Peterson's four-run homer.
Three Bobcats recorded multi-hit efforts, with redshirt junior second baseman Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) leading the way with a 4-for-5 effort. He drew a walk, scored a run and drove in a run. Junior first baseman Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored while senior shortstop Treyben Funderburg (Beavercreek, Ohio) logged a 2-for-4 outing and scored a pair of runs.
Ohio is scheduled to play a three-game series against regional rival Marshall this weekend. The Bobcats are slated to host the Thundering Herd on Friday (March 12) at 4 p.m. ET at Bob Wren Stadium, then travel to West Virginia for a pair of 1 p.m. ET contests on Saturday (March 13) and Sunday (March 14).
