ATHENS, Ohio- The Ohio soccer team (0-1, 0-1 MAC) opened the 2020-21 season on Thursday (March 4), falling 1-0 to Miami (1-0, 1-0 MAC) at Peden Stadium. It was the Bobcats first game since November of 2019.
The Bobcats outshot Miami, 14-9, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities in the loss. Freshman forward Shae Robertson (Lexington, Ky.) took five shots and put four on goal.
"It's amazing to be able to play again," head coach Aaron Rodgers said. "We've all been through a lot over the last year, and it was 488 days or something like that since we had our last official game. I know the players were ready to play, maybe a little anxious to play. So that was awesome."
The only goal of the day came in the 56th minute when Julia Hoffman lifted the ball just off the fingertips of Ohio goalkeeper senior Sydney Malham (Nashville, Tenn.), who only faced six shots on goal from the RedHawks.
Ohio was unable to respond despite numerous attempts at the goal in the second half, leaving scoreless after 90 minutes.
