ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio baseball team (9-9, 3-5 MAC) was saddled with a 14-3 loss to Central Michigan (10-8, 2-2 MAC) on Sunday (March 28) in the finale of a four-game Mid-American Conference weekend series at Bob Wren Stadium.
The Chippewas outhit the Bobcats, 18-4, and saw six of their hitters post multi-hit afternoons.
Central Michigan plated two runs in the top of the first inning, but Ohio answered in the home half of the second and knotted the score at two-all. Redshirt junior right fielder Specner Harbert (Middletown, Del.) coaxed a leadoff walk and then scored on a double to right center by senior left fielder Sebastian Fabik (Lebanon, Ohio). Fabik then tied the game when he scored on a single to center by graduate student third baseman Trevor Hafner (Perrysburg, Ohio).
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the Chippewas plated three runs in the third, another in the fifth, four in the sixth and two in both the eighth and ninth to post a decisive 11-run win.
Fabik led Ohio's offense with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
Sophomore left-handed starting pitcher Jacob Tate (Louisville, Tenn.) took the loss on the mound for the Bobcats. He struck out seven over four innings while giving up five runs, three of which were earned on four hits and a walk.
Ohio will look to bounce back next weekend when it visits Toledo for its first conference road series of the 2021 season. The four-game set is scheduled to get underway on Friday (April 2) at 3 p.m. ET.
