EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Ohio wrestling team started their 2021-22 campaign on Saturday (Nov. 7), as they traveled to participate in the Michigan State Open. The Bobcats had five wrestlers place in the top-6 within the Freshman/Sophomore Division -- including two 1st-place finishes -- and two top-6 finishes in the Open Division, including a victory at 149 pounds. Freshman
Sal Perrine picked up the victory at 174 pounds in the Freshman/Sophomore Division, winning by decision, 4-3. Fellow freshman
Zayne Lehman was the other Bobcat to win in the Freshman/Sophomore Division, winning by decision, 5-3, at 184 pounds. In the Open Division,
Alec Hagan won via medical forfeit in the 149 pound bracket.
Other top results in the Freshman/Sophomore Division included freshman
Dierre Clayton finishing in 4th place at 125 pounds, freshman
Garrett Thompson picking up a 3rd place result at 157 pounds with a 5-3 decision over teammate
Peyten Kellar, and sophomore
Jordan Greer also finishing in 3rd place at 197 pounds with a major decision, 11-2, against Cole Jackson from Cal Poly.
Hagan, a redshirt-senior, returned to competition for the Bobcats after not competing last season. His first-place finish came after Mitch Moore of Oklahoma had to medically forfeit.
Jordan Slivka, a redshirt-sophomore, also placed in his weight class (157 pounds), as he finished in 3rd place after a no-contest against Bryce Hepner from Ohio State.
Up Next:
Ohio will next compete in the Navy Classic, held in Annapolis, Md., on Nov. 20. A start time is yet to be announced.
