OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (9-16, 9-5 MAC) captured another victory over rival Miami (6-18, 4-10 MAC) on Friday (Nov. 5) in Millett Hall.
The Bobcats started the Battle of the Bricks weekend by defeating the RedHawks, 3-1 (18-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-21). After dropping the first set, Ohio hit a stellar .500 in the second to tie up the match. The Bobcats continued to hit well collectively, attacking at .405 in set three to take the lead. The fourth set was a battle as Miami fought to stay in the match, but Ohio jumped in front late in the set to grab the win.
Fifth year opposite hitter
Maggie Nedoma (Brook Park, Ohio) led the match with 19 kills while hitting .441. Outside hitters
Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) and
Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) followed, collecting 13 kills apiece. Junior
Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) also had a strong performance, hitting .476 and recording 12 kills and four blocks (two solo, two assist). Additionally, junior defensive specialist
Ciara Livingway (Lake Orion, Mich.) aided Ohio's offense by registering four aces, while sophomore setter
Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) hit .444 and added 52 assists. Defensively, sophomore
Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) led the match with 24 digs and sophomore defensive specialist
Maci Watrous (Coppell, Texas) tallied 12. Steele and Watrous also collected two more service aces for the Bobcats.
Up next, Ohio will play in round two of Battle of the Bricks at 5 P.M. EST tomorrow (Nov. 6).
