Ohio vs. Central Michigan Postgame Quotes

OHIO HEAD COACH TIM ALBIN

On the outcome of the game
"Let me start out by saying, we are disappointed. It was a great beautiful day, and I thought our team again played their tails off. We just have to find a way to make a few more plays down the stretch. I could not be prouder of their effort and there were a lot of good things that came out of the adjustments at both sides of the ball at halftime."

On the adjustments made in halftime
"Defensively we got the runs secured us up a bit and we were much better in the second half. To get that done, we had to match up man coverage and they (Central Michigan) made some plays on that touchdown throw. Early in the first quarter, there were points that we should have had. As a staff we must get the team's heads up and get them back to work on Monday."

On the penalty after 3rd and 2 play
We were going to go for it, and then the post play penalty was called from the bench area. It is unfortunate and I am disappointed and so was that person. That is not who he is, and it is a teachable moment for our football team. I know that young man is hurting but we must get it corrected and make sure it does not happen again."

On the game preparation
"I will challenge them this week. You learn stuff more every game. With every loss, you learn the different struggles that you have and correct them. I told them since we started practice on August 6, once we start league play, it is going to come down to a situation. Our league top to bottom is the most competitive it has been since my time here. Every game is going to come down to what you saw today. Next week is going to be like today and we must find a way to get it done."

On the flow of the game with a new quarterback
"I am very happy with Armani's performance today. I want to watch the film, I know it is not perfect but there are some good things to with the deep balls."

On playing both quarterbacks
"You are going to see both quarterbacks. Not to be cliché but we are an equal opportunity employer in the production. Both Armani and Kurtis are talented. They have unique skills, and we have to find a way to build on Armani's skills and find a way to continue to build Kurtis'."

On Siegh Bangura's historic day
"I am not surprised at all; he's the guy. There is some really talented younger players that are getting a lot of playing time at this point of the season. Again, I was not surprised, and we knew he was going to play. Coach Tettleton did a great job there."

OHIO QB ARMANI ROGERS

On what it is like to be the quarterback for the entire game:
"I just feel like whatever is going on out there we just got to find the rhythm. At the end of the day, I will give credit to both of us out there."

On if the offense was different in any way today:
"Every game plan is different. So, what we did vs. Akron was a different game plan then for this game. We faced a different defense. As far as offense, I feel like we just go out there and do the best we can and capitalize on the plays we did."

On the more mixed-up play calling:
"We practice these plays, so when we get in the game, we expect what's going to go on and what's going to happen."

OHIO LB BRYCE HOUSTON

On how they are taking this loss:
"I mean I guess every loss is hard to swallow but we just got to get back to the drawing board. We need to look at the things that we messed up and look at things that we capitalized on and be able to take this back into the next week."

On if they felt they took a step today regardless of the result:
"I'm proud of my defense, the way we fought. The way we battled tackled. It's just the small little plays at the end of the game that count."

On if there are times where defense just tips their cap on a play
"I mean at the end of the day; those dudes are on scholarship too. They are athletes as well, so you got to respect what they have. We just got to look at ourselves and see what we can do to be able to not have those plays go their way. But kudos to them, they did a great job of capitalizing on what they had to do.

On how they can move on defensively when missing players:
"We always have a next man up mentality and at the same time, I'm just proud of the way the next person stepped up. They were able to do their thing. It hurts that we didn't get the result that we wanted but at the same time I am proud of the way each guy stepped up and fid their job."

CENTRAL MICHIGAN HEAD COACH JIM MCELWAIN

On how he's feeling after this win on the road
"I just can't tell you how happy I am for our kids. You know they hung in there and it wasn't pretty by any stretch of imagination, but we came out ahead on a tough road trip. Our team figured out a way to win and that's really what it's all about."

On Kalil Pimpleton's impact today
"Well, you know, I think he knew that he needed to make some plays and he's our guy, he's the heart and soul of this football team. I tell you what I just love him. I thought he did a good, he stepped up and did some things well."

On the change in style from week to week with Lew Nichols
"You know, I thought he did a good job overall. He still missed sometimes where I thought he could just stick his foot in the ground and go north. But that is the type of runner he is, and you know he's going to see that he probably left some yards out there, but you know for us I was happy for that offensive line. I thought they created some push up front and Lew took advantage of it. You know we played with a little bit of tempo and that helped us a little bit in that second half as well."

On how penalties sustained drives for Ohio
"Well, I mean, the one on Hariston you know I mean he's just scrambling; I don't know where that came from. This crew in particular, I talked to them about it. They lead the country in unsportsmanlike calls, that first one on Kreski I don't even know where the heck that came from."

"Lining up in the neutral zone that's a discipline thing and they talked to us prior to that about, you know, getting back and so, you know, I mean, penalties. They're going to happen. Yet, you know to be able to overcome those on the road along with two turnovers, I think that's huge."

On how Ohio's QB present different problems for Central Michigan defensively
"No, absolutely you know, especially, after coming out, throwing the pick and turning the ball over, our defense just kept hanging in and I thought that was good. We didn't have a lot of those huge explosive plays, but I thought we played better in the back end. We didn't fit a couple of quarterback runs, right and yet we knew what was coming. All being said, we did wrap up fairly well and got guys to the ground and more than anything, we made them earn it, and that's really what we wanted to do."

On the confidence he has in his kicker
"Well, it's not only me you know, but also our football team. Our football team believes in the mullet when he's out there. They feel like it's [the ball] going to go in every time and I was happy to see him rebound and really strike the ball well. There were no doubts about his ability."

CENTRAL MICHIGAN RB LEW NICHOLS II

On his mindset on the last drive after having to punt
"It was really just focusing on getting a first down and to hold on to the ball. I wanted to put the team on my back and win the game for us."

On the mindset going into this game?
"Last weekend's game, was one we wanted to have this week. That is why we took the initiative to start off fast, finish strong and that's exactly what we did which played into my mindset and the whole offensive mindset."

On the impact of Kalil Pimpleton
"Well, he's very important to this team and as a teammate he's one of our leaders. He has been one of our leaders since I got here. He's a hell of a player and competitor, he shows up every day with the right mindset to work and today he displayed what he can do."

CENTRAL MICHIGAN WR KALIL PIMPLETON

On how he draws the attention of the defense
"It feels good, we go in every week knowing we have game plans and plays to try and get KP ball. But by drawing the attention of the defense, it allows for other guys to get out there and make plays. As long as I can, do my job and get those guys open, if the ball comes to me then it comes to me."

On the teams belief in the "Mullet" [kicker Marshall Meter]:
"I've never worried about Marshall Meter, he is one of my favorite guys on the team. Although he had a rough week last week, I feel the same way Coach Mac feels. I have that same trust."

On how important getting this win was for the team?
"It does a lot for this team. Coming off of the loss last weekend, we beat ourselves and going forward this season I think I think every game is important. Facing and overcoming adversity to win this one by sticking together and bringing our own energy meant a lot. We had to bring our own tools along with that energy while trusting in ourselves that we can go out there and do this. And we faced that adversity today and overcame it, moving forward I think it gives us a big energy boost in confidence in the way that we play."
