YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams competed in the MAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Oct. 30), hosted by Eastern Michigan. The men finished fourth in the 8k and the women finished fifth in the 6k.
In a tight race, graduate student
Josh Park (Amherst, Ohio) worked his way to the front to secure a second-place finish and clock a time of 24:08.2. Graduate student
Seth Gard (Eaton, Ohio) also had a strong race, coming in seventh and recording a time of 24:24.6. At the conclusion of the meet, both Park and Gard were both named to the All-Mac First Team. Placing 14
th, junior
Michael Tonkovich (Athens, Ohio) finished in 24:50.1 and was named to the All-MAC Second Team. With 101 points, the men's team achieved their lowest combined point total at the MAC Championship since 2016.
Finishing 16
th, senior
Madelyn Bartolone (Massillon, Ohio) collected a personal best with a time of 21:37.4. Graduate student
Hailey Bowes (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore
Sophia Hoersten also achieved top-30 finishes, placing 28
th and 29
th. Bowes crossed the finish line in 22:01.4, while Hoersten clocked a time of 22:03.6. This was the women's first top-5 at the MAC Championship since 2013.
Up next, the Bobcats will compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships in Evansville, Ind. on Nov. 12.
