ATHENS, Ohio --
The Ohio Bobcats (7-3-1, 3-0-1) stayed unbeaten in conference play Sunday afternoon (Oct. 3), defeating the Toledo Rockets (7-3-2, 2-2-0) by a score of 1-0 at Chessa Field.

The entire game was a back and forth affair, especially in the first half, with Toledo logging five shots and Ohio taking four. The Rockets did put more attempts on goal than the Bobcats however, with the efforts of Sam Wexell keeping the score knotted at zero going into the intermission.

Dirrig scored her first goal of the 2021 season in the 70th minute, as she knocked in a loose ball in the 6-yard box following an Ally Campanella corner kick. The assist by Campanella was her first of the season. Ohio created several opportunities throughout the game off of corner kicks, which Ohio had six of.

Defensively, Wexell continued to prove her abilities in net. Since allowing a goal in the first ten minutes of the Buffalo game on September 23, Wexell has gone over 300 shutout minutes. Wexell made six total saves against Toledo, matching a season-high save total that she set in the Bobcats' last game against Bowling Green, a double-overtime draw.

Ohio did not have a leader in shots taken against the Rockets, as several Bobcats all recorded one shot. Ohio only recorded two shots on goal, one each from Dirrig and Izzi Boyd

With the win, Ohio has yet to record a loss in conference play through four games played, a feat that hasn't been accomplished by Ohio since their 2004 campaign, when the Bobcats started 8-0-3 in conference games.

Up Next:

Ohio soccer will play their next game at Chessa Field, as they welcome Western Michigan (3-8, 1-3) into town on Thursday (Oct. 7). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
