KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Ohio volleyball team (7-16, 7-5 MAC) grabbed a 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-13) victory over Western Michigan (14-9, 7-5) on Friday (Oct. 29) to kick off their weekend on the road.
The Broncos took the first after creating some separation in the latter half of the set. The Bobcats did not let set one define them and evened out the playing field by securing the second set after seven lead changes. Set three was even more of a battle between Ohio and WMU. Despite the Broncos efforts, the Bobcats prevailed and won the third set, 26-24. Ohio controlled the entire fourth set, hitting .323 to WMU's -0.03 and never allowing them the lead after the first point.
Overall, the Bobcats hit .219 to the Broncos' .156 and accumulated 58 kills.
Freshman outside hitter Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a dominating performance, hitting a career-high .536. In 28 total attempts, Clippard recorded 16 kills and only one error. Junior outside hitter Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) achieved her fifth double-double of the season, tallying 12 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) also collected a double-double. In her third of the season, McLean racked up 46 assists and 14 digs. Fifth year opposite hitter Maggie Nedoma (Brook Park, Ohio) and junior middle blocker Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) also had a notable night, registering 13 and 11 kills. Defensively, sophomore libero Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) led the Bobcats with 25 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Maci Watrous (Coppell, Texas) followed with 12.
Up next, Ohio will travel to Dekalb, Ill. to take on Northern Illinois, tomorrow (Oct. 30) at 7Â P.M. EST.
