Ohio Women's Basketball's Johnson Named MAC East Player of the Week

CLEVELAND – Redshirt sophomore guard Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 11).

Johnson, a sociology and criminology major, won the award for the third time this season. Ohio has now won the MAC East Division Player of the Week award seven times this season, as senior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio) and junior guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio) each won the award twice.

Johnson had 20+ points in Ohio's two wins last week over EMU and Kent State. Johnson started the week off with her fifth double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) of the season in Ohio's 75-65 win at EMU. On Saturday against KSU, Johnson had a game-high 22 points and hit two threes while pulling down seven rebounds, adding five assists and five steals. For the week, Johnson averaged 21.0 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, 3.5 assists per game and 3.0 steals per game.

Johnson is averaging 17.5 points per game and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per contest. In MAC play, Johnson is averaging a team-best 21.3 points per game.

Ohio will continue MAC play on Saturday (Feb. 15) at Miami. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
