Ohio Women's Basketball's Johnson Named MAC East Player of the Week

CLEVELAND – Redshirt sophomore guard Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 28).

Johnson, a sociology-criminology major, won the award for the second time this season. Ohio has now won the MAC East Division Player of the Week award five times this season, as senior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio) has won the award twice and junior guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio) won the award once.

Johnson averaged 27 points last week, and posted a career-high 32 points in Ohio's 85-79 win over Northern Illinois. Johnson was 9-of-16 from the field against the Huskies, 4-of-8 from three and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Johnson added six rebounds and four steals. Against Bowling Green on Saturday, Johnson had 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting and was 5-of-8 from deep. Johnson had six boards in the win.

Johnson is averaging 16.9 points per game this season and 22.1 points per game in MAC play this season.

Ohio will continue MAC play on Wednesday (Jan. 29) against Akron. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
