Ohio Women's Basketball's Hooks Named MAC East Co-Player of the Week

CLEVELAND – Junior guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 21).

Hooks, an integrated healthcare studies major, won the award for the first time this season and the fifth time in her career. Ohio has now won the MAC East Division Player of the Week award four times this season, as senior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio) has won the award twice and redshirt sophomore guard Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) took home the award once.

Hooks averaged 26.5 points per game last week for the Bobcats. In Ohio's 79-71 win over Ball State, Hooks put up 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting while hitting five free throws. Hooks added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win. Hooks opened the week with 28 points, six steals, five rebounds and two assists.

Hooks is averaging a team-best 16.6 points per game and 5.2 rebounds a game this season. Her 3.56 steals per game this season is the MAC leader and No. 8 in the nation.

Hooks shared the award with Dyaisha Fair of Buffalo. Courtney Woods from NIU won MAC West Division Player of the Week.

Ohio will continue MAC play tomorrow (Jan. 22) at Northern Illinois. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
